Resource Center

Friends Place understands that Alzheimer’s disease and other related dementia affects the entire family not just the person with the memory impairment.

It is a disease that creates a difficult and challenging journey for everyone involved.  The Resource Center was designed specifically to make the journey a little easier by offering support, information, resources and educational programs to anyone in the community.  

Caregiver Support Groups

Support group meetings provide spouses, adult children, and other family members the opportunity to:

  • Share information, concerns and suggestions
  • Gain emotional support
  • Locate valuable resources, and/or reputable health care professionals
  • Learn more about the symptoms and affects of specific dementias 

Alzheimer’s Support Group Meetings

Provided as a service of the Alzheimer’s Association, Greater Dallas Chapter

  • Meets twice a month from 2:00 – 3:30 pm
           2nd Thursday – Informal support group meeting
           4th Thursday – Educational program
  • Free day services – with reservations- are available while families attend Alzheimer’s support group meetings
  • Educational programs are presented by community professionals on a variety of topics relating to Alzheimer’s and caregiver issues.  Contact each location for more details. 

Lewy Body Dementia Caregiver Support Group Meeting

Provided as a service of the National Lewy Body Dementia Association

  • Meets once a month from 5:00pm to 6:30 pm
           1st Wednesday (Richardson location only) 

Information and Referrals

Staff can provide family members with brochures, fact sheets, information and referrals for senior care providers, not-for-profit agencies, healthcare professionals, and other community based organizations.  

Lending Library

Books and DVD’s are available for loan on a variety of subjects related to caregiving issues, Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, Parkinson’s, care of aging parents, and for children of various ages to help them understand what is happening to a parent or grandparent. 

Speaker’s Bureau

Our knowledgeable staff is available at no charge to provide presentations for civic groups, churches, support group meetings, service clubs and other community based organizations.

Educational programs and lectures for professionals or other health care staff can also be arranged.
